CWU South Bay Outreach Ministry

At CWU South Bay, we feel passionately that it is our responsibility to serve our greater community. Our commitment to outreach is so strong, in fact, that this is one of the cornerstones of our ministry: “To glorify God while attending to the needs of the community.”

We provide a spiritual presence in our community through public and private worship, and by witnessing through our very lifestyles.  Through faith and love, we support and serve one another to strengthen our homes, our community, and God’s world.

Below are links to our outreach projects for 2014

UNICEF
TAP Water Project
www.tapproject.org

In 2007, the UNICEF Tap Project was born in New York City based on a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised would support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

Since its inception in 2007, the UNICEF Tap Project has raised nearly $3 million in the U.S. and has helped provide clean water for millions of children globally. Now in its sixth year,
the award-winning UNICEF Tap Project, a nationwide campaign sponsored by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, will return during World Water Week, March 19–25. The first program of its kind, the UNICEF Tap Project has become a dynamic movement that affords everyone the opportunity to help provide the world’s children with safe, clean water.

Through numerous fundraising and volunteer activities, the UNICEF Tap Project celebrates the clean water we enjoy on a daily basis by encouraging celebrity, restaurant, volunteer, corporate, and government supporters to give this vital resource to children in developing countries. The concept is basic and compelling: “When You Take Water, Give Water.” 2012 UNICEF Tap Project Funds will specifically target Togo, Vietnam, Mauritania, and Cameroon.
Mothers In Action
Brenda Marsh Mitchell :President
323-299-3800

Mothers in Action is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization founded by the late Johnnie Tillman, Lillian Mobley, Nola Carter, Gwen Green, Mary Henry, Danny J. Bakewell Sr. and Brenda Marsh-Mitchell. MIA is a result of the 1992 civil unrest and aims to bring the community together. Made up of mothers, they aim to help the youth, elderly and less fortunate residents of the community. Mother In Action, the premier community based, organization led by Brenda Marsh-Mitchell, and well known for many of Los Angeles' most significant annual community events including their Back to School Festival, A Taste of Soul, and the Friends Serving Friends Homeless Feeding and Health Fairs, recently provided over 700 complete Thanksgiving meals to senior citizens throughout Southern California at the 14th annual Thanksgiving feast.

The festival features a number of booths including health screenings, dental hygiene, free immunizations, uniforms and haircuts at the festival. Many children don't perform well in school due to poor health conditions and lack of healthcare. The annual fair is a direct response to a community in need.

"Everybody's doing back to school," said Brenda Marsh-Mitchell, Founder and President of Mothers in Action, "But everybody doesn't understand-we've been doing it for a long time. We may not do it the traditional way because we understand that kids fail because they can't see, because they can't eat, because they can't hear, so we try to provide those
services-and the back to school supplies just goes with the territory."
